Chapter 4


I think the ROWE experiment makes so much since. It reminds me of Susie saying that she could be making more money working at the high school but she chose her freedom and less pay to work at the college level. Also, I agree with Stasia about putting this model into the classroom and production rates and grades will most likely rise. As long as the students are getting done what they need to get done, why does it matter if they are in school every day from 7-3? It is why I chose to do a lot of my college classes online for the first two years. It didn’t matter when I did the homework as long as I got it done. I had so much more freedom. Relating this chapter to the teaching aspect, I think that the less autonomy teachers have, the less they are going to love the art of teaching. Teachers obviously do it because they love what they do. Teachers don’t do it for the money. But with all of the requirements and restrictions that are being developed, I think teachers are going to start loving their job less. (And I’ve heard from my observation teacher that this has happened to her.)
